The HEARTOFSTROKE project, funded under H2020 and co-ordinated at UMC Utrecht, has an aim to understand the cause of stroke in every single patient. Looking at the “3Ps” (Pipes, Perfusion, Parenchyma).
New research fields have been created based on innovative non-invasive arterial spin labelling perfusion MRI, perfusion reserve, perfusion territory and vessel wall MRI methods. It is anticipated that patient specific biomarkers will pave the way for designing preventive and therapeutic strategies aimed at reducing the burden of neurodegenerative diseases.
