Emission studies on board the R/V Atalante, Tonga islands
Emission studies will be performed in order to characterize nascent sea spray properties and new particle formation events during the Tonga project (https://twitter.com/tongaproject).
The specific goals related to Sea2Cloud are:
- to document the sea spray properties emitted from a subtropical area of the south Pacific Ocean, and how hydrothermal sources present in the Tonga area impact the biogeochemical properties of the seawater and subsequently emission of sea spray.
- to document the occurrence of new particle formation in the background marine atmosphere of the subtropical South Pacific Ocean, and the impact of airborne volcanic emissions on these occurrence.
